Documentary scripts: To what point can we plan reality?

The restrictions in short film scripts are seemingly much more difficult to define than those in fiction scripts. If documentary makers want to capture reality, how can they script it in advance? And during the filming of a documentary, how can we really depart from the unknown? This script-reading session is a designed to help documentary filmmakers discuss and share ideas about the various steps in documentary script development.
Two up-and-coming documentary filmmakers, Saguenay’s Ken Allaire and Montreal’s Julie Medam, will be presenting their documentary film project that is currently in production. The public will be invited to the screening to comment on Allaire and Medam’s treatment, tone and approach, as well as on their protagonists and their selected filming locations. Imagine… you could be the one to help these filmmakers expand their ideas!
Leading this event will be Benoit Pilon, who will also be acting as advisor. Pilon is the director of 2003 film Roger Toupin, épicier variété, recipient of the Jutra for best documentary and the Bayard d’or for best documentary at the Namur Film Festival in Belgium, and 2006’s Nestor et les oubliés. His most recent documentary, Des nouvelles du nord, paints a touching portrait of the townsfolk of Radisson and Chisasibi in James Bay.
